BeijingTelegraph Bureau, Established in 1883
Our News Agency Center for Corporate Image of CNC Beijing Branch launched a new round of efforts to collect and carefully study all archives dated from the end of Qing Dynasty relating to the origin of Beijing Telegraph Bureau. After many discussions and on-site visits, the center, leaders and experts from our branch company in Tongzhou and Tongzhou Cultural Affairs Bureau finally reached the conclusion that Beijing Telegraph Bureau was set up in 9th year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign (Gregorian Calendar: August 18th 1883), and the original site of Beijing Telegraph Bureau was near the Government Office of Beiguan in Tongzhou.
Many of the archives collected this time are very rare, they delineate the whole process how Beijing Telegraph Bureau came into being. Therefore, they are very helpful in unfolding the historical trajectory of CNC Beijing Branch as well as the historical evolution of telecom industry in Beijing.
The research efforts this time have received great support from the former Director of Tongzhou Research Institute of Cultural Relics and the famous historian of Tongzhou history, Zhou Qingliang. Expert Zhou not only pointed out the original site of a post-house that was built together with Beijing Telegraph Bureau in 1883, but also demonstrated by referring to the history of this post-house that the telegraph bureau built in Tongzhou in 1883 was not a local bureau rather the national telegraph bureau.
